The Tri Cape softball team finished Monday’s action 3-0 and Jersey Shore went 2-1, each earning berths in Wednesday’s quarterfinals of the 17th Annual Carpenter Cup softball tournament on Monday.

The Tri Cape softball team jumped out to a perfect start on the same day the Tri Cape baseball team won back-to-back championships just across the park in South Philadelphia.

Tri Cape defeated Jersey Shore, 6-3, in the final game of the day, but both teams did enough to advance. Mercer County finished a tough 0-3.

Tri Cape also defeated Mercer County, 6-4, and Inter-Ac, 15-1. Tri Cape was led by Timber Creek’s Julianna Coluccio, who went 5-for-11 with a home run, six runs and seven RBI and St. Joseph’s Hamm’s Macie Jacquet, who was 8-for-11 with six runs and three RBI.

Cedar Creek’s Liz Martin pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out 15.

Jersey Shore won against Inter-Ac, 4-1, and Mercer County, 9-8. Freehold Township’s Olivia Smith was 3-for-7 with four walks and a big three-run inside-the-park homer in the win over Mercer County, while Point Pleasant Boro’s Georgia Tym finished the day 5-for-8 with three runs scored.

Gina Abinetti of Freehold Boro allowed just two runs in 7 2/3 IP with nine strikeouts.

Inter-Ac defeated Mercer County, 9-6, in the final game of the day with both teams eliminated. Notre Dame’s Morgan Crane was 3-for-10 with three RBI on the day for Mercer County.

Olympic Colonial and Burlington County will play on Tuesday and try to join the other Jersey teams in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
