NBA basketball player Jrue Holiday made the easiest £234,000 of his life this week – and it only took him eight seconds.

The Milwaukee Bucks star started their final game of the regular season against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday (April 10), despite the defending champions having already qualified for the playoffs.

He didn’t last long, though, because almost immediately after tip-off Holiday fouled an opposition player and headed to the bench to be substituted. His eight-second long cameo may seem bizarre, but it happened so he could claim a bonus in his contract worth $306k (£234.56k), per ESPN journalist Bobby Marks.

Holiday needed to play 67 times and average more than 3.15 rebounds per game to activate the clause. And he made his 67th appearance against Cleveland, while finishing the season with 4.5 rebounds per game average.

The commentators joked that the defender “will be served well contractually” as a result. He is in his second year with the Bucks after helping them to win the title last time out.

Although Holiday may not need the money himself – he’s on a reported $25.11million (£19.26m) salary after all – it will likely help in his charitable work.
