Members of the drum line of the Steubenville Big Red band perform during Monday’s Juneteenth community celebration at the Berkman Amphitheater in Fort Steuben Park. The four-day event concluded Monday with a poetry reading, presentations by Wilbur Knight; the Rev. Marvin E. Barner Jr., pastor of Second Baptist Church; the Earth, Wind and Fire Dance Group; Jim Baber, a member of the festival’s steering committee; Soul Skool; and a closing ceremony that included Mayor Jerry Barilla; Bryan Mills; Matt Grimshaw, president and chief executive officer of Trinity Health System; Judy Bratten; and Royal Mayo. Baber said organizers were happy with the festival, which included food, games for children and entertainment at locations including Second Baptist, Harding Stadium and the fort. Barilla said the event helped to bring members of the community together to enjoy the celebration and reflect on the holiday. Sponsors included Second Baptist, Historic Fort Steuben, Trinity, Steubenville City Schools and WTOV-TV. — Ross Gallabrese
