Ex-USC Basketball superstar center Evan Mobley will miss one to two weeks with a right ankle sprain, according to The Athletic NBA Insider Shams Charania. This was reported by Charania on Monday, which therefore means that Mobley will be back on October 17th, at the latest. The first game for Mobley’s Cleveland Cavaliers is on October 19th, so he’ll be back by the time the season starts.

And that’s the good thing for the Cavs. Mobley is going to be vital for Cleveland’s success this year. He’s the same player who averaged 15 points per game last year with 1.7 blocks per game as just a rookie this past season.

He’s still working on efficiency as a scorer, as he shot 50.8% form the field last year, 25% from beyond the three-point line last year, and 66.3% from the charity stripe last year. That being said, he of course is a good shot blocker at a young age and also crashes the boards (averaging 8.3 rebounds a game). At just 21 years old, he’s got quite the future in this league.

The Cavs will now be leaning on their other centers in the preseason. They would be Jarrett Allen, Kevin Love, Robin Lopez, and Dean Wade. So far in the preseason (they’ve played one game), out of those four it was Love who’s stood out. In 16 minutes, the crosstown UCLA product went three for six (all three-point attempts) for nine points and collected seven boards.

Wade also shined in 23 minutes–hitting three shots out of six for 11 points. All three were three-point shots, and he hit both his free throws. He picked up five boards and a steal.

That being said, the former USC Basketball Pac-12 Player of the Year–Evan Mobley–could potentially be back for the next preseason game on October 10th. He also, however, could miss all three of the next Cleveland preseason games. Again, however, he’ll be sure to be back in time for the regular season.

The Cavs look to make the playoffs for the first time since the 2017-2018 season. They were a play-IN team last year, but did not make the playoffs. They will likely take that next step this year, and largely due to Mobley being in line for a huge year, and how he likely fits with newly acquired star Donovan Mitchell.
