The Tempe Buffaloes knocked off the Prescott Badgers 4-1 to end the Badgers season at (10-3-0). Prescott spent much of the day chasing after the Buffaloes who seemed more energized on the field. Miguel Armenta scored the first three goals for Tempe, getting past the defense and forcing Badger goal keeper Bryan Granados-Estrada to play one on one.

Trailing  2-0 at the half, the Badgers worked hard to get on the board. The lone Prescott goal came on a penalty kick by Edgar Martinez with 34:56 remaining, cutting the deficit in half to 2-1. The Badgers had more chances but their shots were stopped or just outside the net. The game was physical with more than one Buffalo riding piggyback on a Badger.

Tempe went up 3-1 with 15:27 left and added a fourth goal for good measure to win by three.

The #11 seeded Buffaloes earned themselves a trip to Mohave, and will face the Thunderbirds on Tuesday.

The second game of the day did not fare any better as the Sahuarita Mustangs held the Prescott Badgers scoreless for the entire game to win 1-0. Mustang goal keeper Hayle Salcido played an outstanding game shutting out a Prescott team that had not been blanked since the finals on March 20 of last year.

The Badgers did have more shots on goal 11-5, but that is not where it counts.

Sahuarita scored their only goal a little over eight minutes into the game when Sam Wright’s kick just sailed over the head of Prescott goalie Charlotte Osborn.

Prescott and their faithful thought they had tied the score when Ellie Magnett kicked the ball  in the net, immediately rebounding her first shot off the crossbar. The official ruled a questionable offside penalty against the Badgers nullifying the goal.

The Badgers had their chances in the second half on breakaways, but Mustang goalie Hayle Salcido did her job very well today in helping eliminate the #4 seed.

Coach Paul Campuzano said, “We played hard, we didn’t play great, but we played hard. As I tell them the last three and four years, good teams lose all the time and you have to make your mark on a game and show why you are the better team. We missed numerous opportunities and a couple of breakaways early in the second half, we had a goal called back. We’re a multiple scoring team and we just didn’t do it today.”

Prescott ends another good season at (11-2-1), while Sahuarita (9-2-2) gets to travel again and face Saguaro.
