Café Minamdang Review: Seo In Guk turns shaman; Oh Yeon Seo, Kang Mina, Kwak Si Yang starrer K-drama offers crime stories with a dash of comedy
Seo In Guk as the fake shaman Nam Han Jun is a pretty convincing character. The opening episode showed him making a dashing entry in a hotel as if he owned it. He makes for a great show person who makes a living by fooling his clients. He is exceptionally popular amongst the women folk, and he is well aware of it. There is a careless attitude and arrogance that gives his on screen personality a good edge.Oh Yeon Seo’s Han Jae Hui is a strong and level headed cop. She plays by the book on most occasions, but sometimes she goes off the road to get justice. The first two episodes give us a glimpse into the lead couple’s life. There is definitely a lot to uncover and unpack there, and from what the flashbacks tell us, it is definitely something serious. The chemistry between the leads is sure adorable to watch. They unknowingly come together during a case, and one can safely assume that they might up end up being on the same team with more cat fights to ensue.
The show since it is based on crime procedural shows the murkier side of the story as well. There is power and a lot of politics that goes behind the closed doors. One could say that there have been crime procedural dramas with a dash of comedy, but what makes this show stand out is the larger than life dramatics and comic timing of the Minamdang trio. There serious matters are dealt with flair and they don’t settle heavily on the viewers. The blow is softened with an instant comic relief or a momentary pause.
The preview for the next episode shows that there will be more cases that these two solve, and also a lot of past incidents that will come up. This Seo In Guk – Oh Yeon Seo starrer will make you want to binge the series in one go. If you’re looking for something to start your week with, Café Minamdang is a good choice for you. Also it is Seo In Guk’s comeback drama, so what’s keeping you back?
